Driving by Car

Sag Harbor is located 100 miles east of New York City on the East End of Long Island. The total driving time is approximately 2 hours.

Travel eastbound on the Long Island Expressway (LIE 495) to exit 70. Take exit 70 South until you reach the Montauk Highway. (Route 27) Travel East on Route 27 until you reach Bridgehampton. At the traffic light in Bridgehampton, (Monument and Flag pole at traffic light) make a left onto the Sag Harbor turnpike. After approximately 5 miles, the turnpike becomes Main street in Sag Harbor. Stay on Main Street until you reach the center of Sag Harbor village. The Hotel is a three story red brick building in the center of town, next to the Sag Harbor Fire Department.

We do not have a designated parking area for Hotel guest’s cars. Either park in the one-way alley right next to the Hotel, or in the municipal parking lot in the rear of the Hotel. Be sure not to leave your car on main street overnight.

Coming from the East Hampton area
Take Route 114 North until you reach Bay Street in Sag Harbor. Make a left on to Bay Street and a left again on to Main Street, away from the bay. The American Hotel is a three story red brick building on your left.

Coming from Southampton and Bridgehampton area
Heading East, make a left at the traffic light in Bridgehampton on to the Sag Harbor Turnpike and drive North. Follow it until it becomes Main Street in Sag Harbor. Follow Main Street into the center of Sag Harbor village. The American Hotel is a three story red brick building on the right, next to the Sag Harbor Fire Department.

Coming from Shelter Island/ North Haven area
Take Route 114 South into Sag Harbor and make a right on to Main Street. Drive up Main Street away from the bay. The American Hotel is a three story red brick building on your left.

By Bus

The Hampton Jitney operates a reliable and comfortable bus service between the Hamptons and the New York Metro area. They offer flexible bus schedules with busses departing and arriving in New York and Sag Harbor in the morning, afternoon and evening, seven days a week. Roundtrip fare is approximately $50.00.

There are pick up locations in Manhattan and an airport connection in Queens, but only one drop-off point in Sag Harbor – right in front of The American Hotel! The bus departs west-bound from in front of the Sag Harbor movie theatre.
